Vicente Sanchis was born in Alacuás, in Valencia, in 1939. He studied harmony, counterpoint, fuega, composition and instrumentation, piano, orchestral and band directing, choral directing, Orff and Kodal methodology, educational concerts, musical analysis, and audio perception at the conservatories of Valencia and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He has a degree in composition and piano. Prizes and distinctions: First prize at end of degree. Awarded the Santiago Lópe grant. First position in competition for a place in the national band corps. First prize in the Alicante pasodobles composition. First prize in composition at the Torrevieja contest in 1992 and 1997. Second prize in the Arezzo international competition. First prize in Bello Horizonte international contest. First prize in the Huelva contest. Vaticano II medal given by Pablo VI. Legislative assembly gold medal in Bello Horizonte. Gold medal from the city of Cali in Colombia. Favourite son of Isla Cristina. Man of the Year in Huelva 1979. Posts held: Conservatory director at Valle university in Columbia, Tolima (Ibagué -Columbia), and Cartago (Valle - Columbia). Teacher at: University of Cali, Tolima, Cartago, A.Valencia in Cali, and Seville (Spain). Chorus director at the university of Valle. Director-founder of the chorus of Ibagué, Polifónica chorus at Isla Cristina, and Almonte in Huelva; choral department at Cali; Palestrina de Cali chorus; choruses Tolima and Coro Universitario in Seville (Spain). Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Conservatorio del Tolima. Music director of the national apprenticeship programme in Columbia. Founder of the government-sponsored Huelva music room network. Director of the Banda Municipal de Huelva. He taught orchestral and choral directing in courses organised by the OEA for South American music directors. He has organised courses for band directors organised by the provincial government in Huelva and the federation of Andalusian bands. He directed the following orchestras: the Orquesta Clásica de Valencia, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, the Sinfónica del Tolima, the Vergara in Spain and the Grupo Sinfónico de Huelva. He has also directed the following bands: Sinfónica de Valencia, Sinfónica de Alicante, Sinfónica de Sevilla; as well as those of the following towns and cities: Ayora, Silla, Picassent, Isla Cristina, and the Filarmónica in Pilas. He has composed for the experimental theatre in Cali and the La Cuadra theatre in Seville. |
