    The band was founded in 1931 and is formed by players between 20 and 25. This year it celebrates its 70th anniversary.

    The band is a regular at the Valencia International Music Band Contest having participated in 1991 and 1996.

    One of its principal objectives is to play unusual band music and it often commissions new works by Norwegian composers. The band has worked with many national and international soloists, and has given more than 50 performances on Norway's national radio. It also participates every year in the national band competition. Every two years, the band organises a competition for promising young musicians in the area.

    The band has made nine recordings, the most recent being a collection of contemporary Norwegian musical pieces for bands.
