The band was founded in 1819 by the Franciscan monk Antonio Albarracín and adopted its current name in 1858.
It participated for the first time in the Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1888 and won top prize. This success has been frequently repeatedly - most recently in 1996. The band has given performances in most every Spanish city, as well as many European and American capitals. The band has made numerous recordings for Spanish and Valencian television, as well as European and Japanese television and radio channels.
The band won first prize in the Barcelona International Exposition competition in 1929, and first prizes in the Dutch Kerkade competitions in 1962 and 1966.
It has won first prize and honorable mention in the Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1986 (centenary of the competition) and 1986 (centenary of the band's participation in the competition). The band has won so many awards that the list below is limited to first prizes: Valencia - 26, Castellon - 1, Alicante - 1, Murcia - 1, Cuenca - 1, Jativa - 1, Barcelona - 1, Kerkade - 2.
