The band was founded in 1845 as the 'Sociedad Filarmónica de la Villa' and participated in the inaugural Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1886 - winning second prize.
The current band was formed from the merger in 1940 of the La Primitiva Utielana and La Armonica.
The band boasts 140 players, with an average age of just 18. The band school has 80 students. Supporting the band are more than 1000 society members and board of 21. The president since 1995 has been Vicente Carrascosa Fort.
Directors of the band over the years have included: Manuel Belando, José Llopis, Juan Bañón, Francisco Cebrián, José Pérez Ballester, Miguel Gorrea, José Miguel Rodilla, Alvaro Albiach, Esteban Esteve, Pedro José Sancho and José Ángel Zahonero.
The band won third prize in the Spanish television program 'Gente Joven' in 1985.
It won first prize and an honorable mention in the first section of the Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1988, and fourth prize in the first L'Havre contest in France in 1990.
During 1995, the band celebrated its 150th anniversary and the band society published a book about the musical tradition in Utiel.
The band won first prize in the special section of the Villa de Leganés contest in 1996. A year later, it won first prize in the special section of the Valencia International Music Band Contest. In the following year, it obtained first prize in the Villa de Altea contest. The band's most recent award was first prize in the 1999 Villa de Leganés contest.
