DE FALLA" DE ALCORCÓN (Madrid)
Band profile
The band was founded together with a music school by the Alcorcón
town council (Madrid) in 1981. Just three years later, the band had won
second prize in the Chinchón band contest. Since then the band
has participated in numerous competitions in Avila, Ciudad Real, Alcázar
de San Juan, Bétera, Paterna, Liria, Valencia, Campo de Criptana,
Parla, Tomar (Portugal), and Tilburg (Holland).
In both 1992 and 1993, the band won first prize at Parla. During the successive
two years, the band won first prizes the Valencia International Music
Band Contest.
The band took part in the concert season organized by the Spanish national
heritage organization in 1996. The following year, the band performed
Verdi's Aida with Spanish national television orchestra.
In the same year, the band won second prize in the special section of
the Leganés competition, second prize in the special section of
the Valencia International Music Band Contest, and first prize in the
first section of the Kerkrade competition in Holland.
Director profile
Martín José Rodríguez Peris first studied with La
Artesana band in Catarroja, where he learnt musical theory and saxophone
under Bort and Claverol.
Later, in the Valencia conservatory he won first prize in saxophone. He
studied under Conejero, José Maria Cervera and Maria Teresa Oller
and José Ferrís. In Madrid, he studied composition with
Francisco Calés and López Calvo - and directing with García
Asensio. As a saxophonist, he played with the Banda Sinfónica de
la Unión Valenciana en Madrid, the Cuarteto de Saxofones Adolfo
Sax, and the Cuarteto Real de Saxofones, as well as the King's royal household
band.
As a director, he won various prizes with the Alcorcón Manuel de
Falla children's choir and the municipal band.
As well as directing the municipal music school, he also directs the youth
choir and teaches in the school's instrumental and chamber groups.
