Band profile
This comparatively new band began in 1995 under the baton of Rafael Ballesteros
García. The band has strived to make classic music easily accessible
to the public.
It participated in the Andulusian regional band competitions held in Chauchina
in 1997, 2000, and 2001. In 1997, the band worked together with the 'Coral
Santa María la Mayor' in Padul to produce Mozart's Misa de la Coronación
- under the direction of Juan Paulo Gómez Hurtado. This production
culminated in concerts in two city churches and an auditorium in Granada.
In the same year, the band gave a recital of zarzuelas under Aniceto Giner
Arranz and with the soloists Coral Morales, José Zapata, Enrique
Castro and Higinio Femández. The band also participated in the
Salobreña band competition.
A year later, Aniceto Giner led the band to win first prize in the B section
of the Andulusian regional band competition held in Ronda.
Between 1999 and 2000, Ángel López Carreño led the
band to win second prize in the Andulusian regional contest, as well as
win first prize in the third section (less then 50 players) of the Murcia
band contest. The band also played at the Granada conservatory and took
part in the first course for directors held at Chauchina under Enrique
García Asensio.
In 2001, it won second prize in the first Madrid zarzuela contest under
the direction of Rafael Ballesteros García. It also won third prize
in the second section of the Murcia national competition under Rafael
Ballesteros García.
Director profile
Rafael Ballesteros García was born in Barcelona in 1972. He began
his studies at the Victoria Eugenia conservatory in Granada - where he
studied oboe under Miguel Quirós Parejo. He also studied harmony
and counterpoint with Enrique Rueda. He has been director of the Maestro
Falla band since its creation. He teaches music in a secondary school.
