Band profile
EThe band traces its history back to 1893 when it was founded under the
baton of Cosme Bonet Reige. Its most important directors since then have
been: Octavio Montserrat Chapa, Abdón Campos, Jose Maria Cervera
Lloret, Vicente Galdón, Jose Perpiña, Liberto Benet, Miguel
Morella Asins, and Miguel Jorge Cervera.
The band won first prize in the CIFESA pasodobles contest of 1951 and
won rounds in the provincial contests of 1974 and 1976. It also won the
Carcaixent pasodobles contest in 1974.
With arrival in 1993of the current director, Federico Cuevas Martínez,
the band re-entered a successful stage and won two prizes in the 2000
Cullera national contest. The band currently has 75 musicians and 50 students
in its school.
Director profile
Federico Cuevas Martínez was born in Moncada (Valencia) and began
his studies at the local musical centre. He later enrolled at the Valencia
conservatory where he qualified as a music teacher - specializing in saxophone
- and finished his studies in harmony. He has participated in many international
courses in saxophone, and orchestral management. He studied under Francisco
Chasañ, Miguel Llopis, Lluís Sanjaime, Francesc Fort Fenollosa,
Pablo Sánchez Torrella and Rafael Talens. Since 1989, he has taught
at the Maestro Palau school in Moncada and the Alfara del Patriarca band.
Since being named director of the band and the band school in 1993, he
has gone on to win several prizes.
