Historial de la Banda
The band was founded in 1896 and maintains an active program of concerts with recent performances in Vila de Carvalho, Covilhã, Miranda
do Douro, Ovar y Campo (Caldas da Rainha), Sesimbra and Louriçal
do Campo.
In 1993, the band represented the Concelho de Torres
Novas in the celebrations of the 850th anniversary of the Treaty of Zamora.
In 1996, it celebrated its first century with a farewell concert for the director who had led the band for 20 years - Armindo Pereira. Later that year, the current director, Edgar Rafael
Quintela Nogueira, began work.
The following year, the band took part in the 2nd European Band Festival held in the Italian town of Genoa; and was awarded the cultural merit medal from the Portuguese Republic.
Biografía del Director
Edgar Rafael Quintela Nogueira was born in Angola in 1970. He began his musical studies at the age of eight in the Ateneo
Artístico Vilafranquense. As a tubo player, he participated in courses with teachers from the national conservatory in Lisbon at Aveiras de Baixo in 1983, and in AzambujaComo in 1985. In 1988, he joined the navy band and enrolled in the national conservatory as one of the first tuba players. He also studied composition and choir.
He has participated in groups such as the Quinteto de Metales de
Palmela, the Brass Band del Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa, and the Orquesta de la Coral
Sinfónica Portuguesa.
Since October 2000 he has directed the band of the Sociedad Filarmónica Incrível Pontevelense
(in Pontevel, Cartaxo), and taught in the band music school.
