Band profile

The band was founded in 1895 and changed its name to Unión Alacuasense Músical in 1950. Three years ago, the band translated its name to Valencian.
Between 1952 and 1963, it won 11 prizes in the Valencia International Music Bands Contest, including first prize in the second section in 1955, and two successive first prizes in the first section in 1961 and 1962 - which opened the door to the special section. In 1982, the band won second prize in the first section and two years later it won first prize in the special section B. In its last appearance in 1987, the band won second prize in the special section B. The band won first prize in a competition televised by Spanish national television in 1980 - and it also won first prize in the 1994 Elda competition.
It has given performances throughout Spain and Europe, including - Galicia, Extremadura, France, Hungary, Portugal and Holland.
Band directors have included: José Medina Ferrer, Amadeo Mateu Nadal, Francisco Cabrelles Romero, Ramón Herrero García, Jesús Perelló Fuster, Juan Toledo Pérez, Francisco Hernández Guirado and Alberto Sanz García.
The band usually has 100 members and the band school boasts 300 students. The band society president is José Maria Planells Cervera.

Director profile

Teodoro Aparicio Barberán was born in Enguera in 1967 and began playing the saxophone. He studied in the conservatories of Xátiva, Carcaixent, and Valencia, where he obtained two honorable mentions in the extraordinary prize competition. In addition to the saxophone, he also studied double bass, piano, harmony, counterpoint, and directing.
During three years he attended the orchestral directing courses given in Gerona by Bruno Membrey of the Paris opera. He also studied composition with Carl Schahter and worked with Bernardo Adam Ferrero and Luis Blanes.
His compositions have included: 'El amuleto mágico', 'El Sorior y la orden de Uclés', 'El Bosque Quemado' (compulsory piece in the first section of the provincial band contest in 1996) 'Saxadhu', 'Memorias de la Cabaña' (compulsory piece in the first section of the Valencia International Music Bands Contest in 1999) and the 'Asgard' symphony.
He has also directed the following bands: Enguera, Fuente la Higuera, the Banda Sinfónica de Castellón, the Banda Sinfónica de Quart de Poblet, and the Kamerata Orquestale. He is also founder director of the 'Gaspar Cassadó' chamber orchestra.
Since 1994, he has taught analysis and directing and is a member of the WASBE
