Sociedad Musical "Santa Cecilia" de Alcàsser (Valencia)

Alcàsser Music Band was born in 1863 under José Balanzá Herrera's management, following a Town Council initiative.

It was conducted by Esteban Marí Riera in 1870 and by Salvador Llácer Hernández, under the name "Banda Primitiva de Alcácer", in 1903. In 1927 it was taken over by Martín Llácer Llácer, and another band, El Porvenir de Alcácer (La Nova) Music Cultural Centre (Ateneo Musical de El Porvenir de Alcácer (La Nova)), was organised in parallel and conducted by Amadeo Gascó Camarena (1928-1933). In view of this, the "Banda Primitiva" changed its name to Alcácer (La Vella) Music Union (Unión Musical de Alcácer (La Vella)).

The two bands eventually decided to bury the hatchet and merge under the name "Santa Cecilia de Alcácer". The band was conducted by Mariano Puig, who was succeeded by Mauricio Izquierdo Gómez in 1961. In 1973, Francisco Font Fenollosa took over the conducting and obtained important prizes in various contests throughout Valencia. The Gold Medal obtained in the concert and marching sections at Kerkrade (Netherlands) in 1981 is particularly worth mentioning.

In 1989 Francisco Fort Fenollosa reassumed the conducting of the band and toured Austria with it in 1990. In 1993, with Pascual Martínez Martínez at its head, the Band obtained the following prizes (among others): "Gran Premio de España" first prize (1995); first prize and gold medal in the concert section, and second prize and silver medal in the marching section, in Kerkrade Contest (1997).

From April 1998, the band was conducted by José Manuel Beltrán Bisbal, who obtained prizes including one at Loures (Portugal, 1999), first prize in the Special Section of the Certamen de Valencia contest (2000); second prize at Vila d'Altea International Contest (2000); and first prize at the 4th Aranda de Duero International Music Band Contest (2003).
