Unió Musical d’Algímia

The first news of a band in the town dates from 1911, when conducted by Emilio Salt Isach participated in the Certamen de València and later won 1st Prize in the Certamen de Sagunto, 2nd Prize in the Concurso de Pasodobles de Fallas de València (1933) and 1st Prize in the Certamen de Castellón (1934), conducted by Rafael Giner Estruch. In 1940 it reappeared conducted by Manuel Muñoz until it dissolved in the mid-60s.

It was refounded in 1983, being the music director Enrique Ros and, later, José Torrent Masià (1989), performing for the Comunidad Valenciana and Catalonia and, for 5 years, it was the official band of the Burgos festivities.

Between 2003 and 2011, conducted by Sergio Navarro Bonaviña and, later, by José Pascual Arnau Paredes, it held concerts, exchanges and festivals in Portugal, Germany, Badajoz, Granada and Tarragona. In addition, it recorded his first CD "Música des d'Algímia" and performed for the first time at the Palau de la Música de València.

It returned to the Palau in 2013, with Xesco Guillem i Escobar as music director, premiering works by the composers Salvador Rojo and Vicent Adsuara. In 2015 it won 1st Prize and Honorable Mention in the Certamen de la Diputación de València and in the Certamen de la CV in the division four.

In 2019, in the Certamen de la Diputación de València, he won a 1st Prize with Honorable Mention in the division four. It participated in the division three of the CIBM and in the Certamen de la CV, obtaining a 1st Prize.

After the forced reduction of activity due to the pandemic, the band continued to set itself challenges such as the Pangea concert, with Abraham Cupeiro, it won 1st Prize and Honorable Mention in the Certamen de Diputación de València and 1st Prize in the Certamen de la CV, both already in the division three.


Xesco Guillem i Escobar

Xesco Guillem i Escobar was born in Faura (València) in 1975. He began his musical studies at the Sociedad Juventud Musical de Faura and later continued at the Conservatories of La Vall d'Uixó, Riba-roja de Túria, Castelló, La Coruña and Valencia.

He got the Specialist Professor’s degrees in Flute (2000) and Bassoon (2006) at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Joaquín Rodrigo" de València. He is a Specialist Teacher in Music Education (University of Valencia, 1996).

He has assisted music pedagogy courses with professors such Jos Wuytak, Jaques Chapuis, L. Gröloc, M. Ordög and Iramar Eustachio Rodríguez. He continued his training with courses on Improvisation, Music Informatics, Musical Analysis, Percussion, Alexander Technique, Flute, Jazz and Bassoon, with renowned teachers such as J.J. Poveda, Rafael Garcia, J.P. Hernàndez, J. None, S. Sanchís and O. Giménez, among others.

He has studied Choral, Orchestra and Band Conducting with teachers Diego Ramon Lluch, Rafael Mombiedro, Werner Pafft, Luis San Jaime Messeguer, Albert Argudo, Ramón García i Soler, Tomàs Gilabert Giner, Juan Alborch Miñana, Juan José Silvestre Soler, Rafael García Martínez and José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana (2010-2014).

From 2007 to 2015 he was artistic director the Agrupació Musical d' Alfara del Patriarca (2012-2015) and the Unió Musical d' Algímia. From 2015 to 2021 he was artistic director of the Centro Musical e Instructivo Santa Cecilia de Puçol.

Currently, he is teaching as a Music teacher at the I.E.S. Honore García de La Vall d'Uixó, a task that he has made compatible, since September 2018 with conducting, once again, in the Unió Musical d'Algímia.
