Banda Sinfónica Especial Escuela de Música de Bello
The Escuela de Música de Bello is a social investment program created in 2005 by the
city's municipal mayor's office. The school offers musical training programs for people
of all ages, from 3 years old, and focuses on musical initiation with instrumental and
vocal interpretation.
In 2006, the Banda Sinfónica de la Escuela de Música de Bello was formed under the baton
of maestro Edison Augusto Robledo Vargas and was made up of 25 students. The band made
its first performances at municipal and departmental events.
Between 2008 and 2011, the band was conducted by maestro Huber Darío Mondragón Higuita
and participated in various festivals nationwide, which consolidated their musical
career.
In 2012, maestro Juan Guillermo Montoya Mira assumed the direction of the band
accompanied by a specialized teaching team, which allowed the band to obtain
achievements in festivals and national competitions such as Antioquia Vive la Música,
the Concurso Nacional Bambuco Inédito para Bandas Musicales in Tocancipá and the
Concurso Nacional de Bandas Musicales in Anapoima.
In 2014, the band won first place in the Special division of the Concurso Nacional de
Bandas Musicales in Paipa, Boyacá, which allowed them to gain national recognition and
international opportunities.
In 2015, the band participated in the IV Encuentro Internacional de Bandas Sinfónicas in
Peru, performing concerts in various cities.
In 2019, the band was invited to participate in a commemorative concert for the
bicentennial of independence at the Teatro Colón in the Ciudad de Bogotá together with
other symphonic bands.
Currently, the Escuela de Música de Bello continues to contribute to strengthening
social cohesion through its musical training programs and its projection groups.

Montoya Mira
Bachelor of Music Education, speciality in Band Conducting
Born in Gómez Plata, Antioquia, he began his music studies as an euphonium and tuba
player in his hometown. Subsequently, he continued his training at the Universidad de
Antioquia where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Music Education, speciality in Band
Conducting.
Throughout his career, he has complemented his studies with workshops and master classes
with renowned teachers from the musical world. He has conductd several symphonic bands
in different municipalities in Colombia and has been an advisor and jury in symphonic
band contests at the departmental and national levels. In addition, he has won several
calls for creation stimuli in musical composition.
Currently, he is the music director of the Banda Sinfónica Especial del Municipio de
Bello and coordinator of the area of wind instruments in the music school of the same
city. With this group, he has obtained important recognitions in national and
international competitions, including first place and best obligatory piece in the LX
Concurso Nacional de Bandas Musicales de Paipa.
Internationally, he has participated in symphonic band meetings in Peru and has been a
speaker at the VII Congreso Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Música in Mexico. He also
attended NAAM (National Association of Music Merchants) in Anaheim, California as a
guest of Yamaha Music.
