Associação Recreativa e Musical Amigos de Branca (ARMAB)

The Banda Sinfónica ARMAB is an orchestra of an amateur nature.

The origin of the Band dates back to 1940, the year in which the ARMAB – Associação Recreativa e Musical Amigos da Branca was established, celebrating its 83rd anniversary in 2023.

It is based in a small town (5,500 population), called Branca, municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha and Districto de Aveiro, where there is a Conservatory and a Professional Music School with about 800 students, a natural focus for the development of an entire outstanding artistic activity.

It has a permanent staff of 90 musicians, which allows it to perform the entire symphonic repertoire, from classical to the 21st century.

The Band performs regularly throughout Portugal, having a greater incidence in the north, where tradition and the public have greater rectitude. It has also performed abroad, having been invited to participate in various festivals and competitions in several European countries.

We highlight the first prizes obtained in the "Certamen Internacional de Bandas Ciudad de Altea" (2007 and 2014); first place in the "Concurso Internacional de Bandas Ateneo Vilafranquense" (2008, 2012 and 2014); third place in the CIBM “Ciutat de València" (2011); tenth place in the World Music Contest Kerkrade (2009); First Place in the Concurso de Bandas Filarmónicas de Braga (2017); and First Place in the Division One, in the 132º CIBM “Ciutat de València" (2018).

The performance of several symphonies by David Maslanka and James Barnes, as well as Extreme Makeover by Johan de Meij, Las Hijas de Eris by Luis Serrano Alarcón, WineDark Sea: Symphony for Band by John Mackey, among others, register a mark that has already been rooted in the public, making this band one of the most important Symphonic Bands in Portugal and Europe.
