The Banda Juvenil was born in 1968, being its first director and founder Francisco Hernández Guirado.
The first concert of the Banda Juvenil de la Sociedad Musical Lira Castellonera was held on June 4, 1969 at the California cinema in Villanueva de Castellón, under the baton of Francisco Hernández Guirado, its founder. It was accompanied that night by the Coral Infantil Joan Baptista Comes, conducted by José Roca. Since then, the Banda Juvenil is not only an essential complement to the School of Music, but also an entity with its own character with an intense program of activities. It is made up of students from the School of Music who, in this way, start practicing as a group and receive complementary practical training before joining the Banda Sinfónica.
It performs numerous auditions, parades and concerts with remarkable quality and success. In 1972 and 1975 it participated in the Certamen de Cullera, where it obtained, respectively, the parade and pasodoble prizes. In 1983, it obtained second prize in the Youth Division of the Certamen de València and the following year, it obtained first prize. It was conducted at that time by Nicanor Sanz Cifre. It has given concerts in numerous towns in the Valencian Community and also in Segovia and Valladolid. In 2004 and 2015 it performed in Champagne-ave-Mont-Or (France), a linked city with Castelló. And, in 2017, in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
In 2018 it participated in the Certamen de Castellar-Oliveral, where it won first prize.
During the first years, its music director was the same as that of the symphonic band, but it has also been conducted by Faustino Candel, Fernando Ciment, Alberto Reig, Alfred Escalera and, since 2003, Raül Seguí Penadés. It is made up of about 60 musicians who have great enthusiasm and a dedication that grows day by day.
