The Unió Musical de Torrent society was authorized in 1989 as a Recognized Center for
Musical Studies by the Generalitat Valenciana and, in 2017, it was declared a public
utility society. In addition, it organizes a pioneering instrument improvement course
that is currently called FORUMT.
The Symphonic Band “Unió Musical de Torrent” was founded in February 1973, performing
innumerable cultural events, parades, more than 400 concerts, performing in important
venues such as the Sala Mozart in Zaragoza, and participating in more than 60 festivals
throughout the country. As a discography, it has to its credit the recording of a single
and two LPs of Valencian music.
As the most outstanding events we highlight the frequent participation in the
International Music Band Contest "Ciutat de València", obtaining 6 first prizes in the
Honor Division and other first prizes in the Special B Division. In 2015 it achieved to
make history in the Certamen Internacional “Vila d’Altea” reaching the highest score so
far.
It is worth noting the participation in CIBM “Ciutat de València” in 2018, its visit to
the Zaragoza auditorium, concerts performanced together with great soloists from the
national and international scene, such as Pacho Flores or Kiko Berenguer, and the
recording in 2022 of a CD of compositions of its founding conductor Mr. Mariano Puig
Yago.
It has been conducted by prestigious conductors such as Juan Pérez Ribes, Jose Ortí
Martínez, Bernardo Adam Ferrero, Amando Blanquer Ponsoda, Pablo Sánchez Torrella,
Francisco Cabrelles Romero, Bernabé Sanchís Sanz, Francisco Grau Vegara, Mercedes
Padilla Valencia, Jesús Cantos Plaza, Beatriz Fernández Aucejo or David Pont.
Since 2014, the principal and artistic director is Frank de Vuyst.
Belgian conductor, resident in Spain, where he has been chief conductor of symphonic
bands such as the Ateneo Musical de Cullera or the Armónica de Buñol, among others. He
is currently the music director of the symphonic band “Unió Musical” from Torrent
(València), of the Agrupació Artística Musical de Denia and of the Joven Orquesta
Sinfónica de Bandas Sonoras in Zaragoza.
As a conductor he has performed in various countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands,
the USA, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, South Korea, Portugal and Spain.
In 2008 he was appointed founding director of the Banda Sinfónica Juvenil de la Red de
Escuelas de Música de Medellín, a position he held until 2016.
He has been artistic director of the Congreso Internacional de Música para Banda,
organized by the Medellín Mayor's Office, from 2010 to 2014, a congress that in a few
years has become the most important band event in Latin America.
He has been a visiting professor of the Master of Conducting at the Universidad
Javeriana de Bogotá (Colombia), from 2015 to 2018.
Since 2020 he is the artistic coordinator of the WMC Academy (Kerkrade).
In the field of education, he has extensive experience as a conducting teacher, training
conductors in Spain and Latin America, especially.
He has recorded for record labels in Spain, the USA, Japan, Belgium and Colombia.
He has been a juror in competitions in various countries such as Spain, Belgium, the
Netherlands (WMC), Switzerland, Germany, Peru or Colombia.
In his record he has several competitions inside and outside of Spain. He is in
possession of the Golden Baton of the Certamen Internacional “Vila d’Altea”, being he
the only conductor who has won it five times.
