The Centre Artístic Cultural “Verge de la Pau” d’Agost was founded in 1978. In the early years the first conductor of the group was appointed: José Castelló Rizo. During his tenure, the band has won 11 first prizes in different competitions, performed 33 concerts, 11 festivals and participated in 9 other competitions, obtaining 3 first prizes, 2 second prizes and a third prize. Subsequently, the band tours different countries such as Austria, Holland and France.
Throughout the band's professional career, the group has won 35 first prizes, highlighting the Ciutat de Cullera contest in 1997, the first prizes with Honorable Mention in the second division of the del Certamen Internacional de Bandes de Música “Ciutat de València”, in the years 1988 and 1997, and the third division in 2008.
Also noteworthy are the first prizes won in the Certamen Provincial de Alicante in 1991, 1993, in the second division in 1985, 1989, 1996, 2003 and 2015, and in the third division in 2009.
In the “música festera” field he has also been awarded, with the first prize in the “música festera” contest in the years 1991, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2010.
In recent years, in which the band is conducted by José Vicente Algado Climent, the band has won a large number of awards in the Certamen Provincial de Alicante in the years 2013, 2015 and 2018. Likewise, in the Certamen de la Comunidad Valenciana, held in 2018, also won first prize and Honorable Mention, and in the Certamen de Música Festera de Elda it won first prize in 2017 and 2019.
Other notable awards are the first prize in the Certamen de Interpretación de Música Festera de Alcoy in 2018 and the first prize in the Certamen de Música Festera de Cocentaina in 2022.
José Vicente Algado Climent was born in 1981. He began his studies at the Centro Musical “Puig Campana” in Finestrat with his father, continuing them at the Conservatorio “José Pérez Barceló” in Benidorm, and later at the Conservatorio “Óscar Esplá” conservatory in Alicante, where he finished his studies as a horn professor.
In 1999 he began his career in the field of conducting, attending conducting workshops with Frank de Vuyst and Douglas Bostock. In addition, he studies composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Alicante, and graduated in orchestra conducting at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Murcia.
As a conductor, he has conducted different groups such as, for example, the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Catedral de Madrid, the Orquesta de la Universitat de València, the Banda Nacional de Conciertos de Cuba, Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Conservatorio Superior de Murcia, among others.
In addition, he has been principal conductor of the Agrupación Coral de Finestrat, the Band of the Banda del Centro Musical “Puig Campana” in Finestrat and the Chamber Orchestra of the Unión Musical de Benidorm, among others, and currently conducts the Banda del Centre Artístic Cultural “Verge de la Pau” de Agost, the Unió Musical de Polop de la Marina and the Ateneu Musical de la Vilajoyosa.
Mention should also be made of the different awards he has won, such as the award for best performer at the“International Music Camp” in Minot, the baton of maestro "Guillermo Tomás", awarded by the Banda Nacional de Conciertos and the Ministry of Cuba, in addition to having won 12 competitions with the CAC “Verge de la Pau”, being awarded in 2018 with the Best Conductor award in the Certamen de la Comunidad Valenciana.
