BEATRIZ ARZAMENDI

Beatriz Arzamendi was born in Arrasate-Mondragón, began playing music in Arrasate Musikal, founded and directed by her father Juan. At the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music, she earned college degrees in Composition (with an Honorable Mention), Orchestral Conducting, Choir Conducting, Violin and in Solfege, Music Theory, Transposition, and Piano Accompaniment. Her teachers are: Pedro León, Francisco Calés, Román Alís, Antón García Abril, Francisco García Nieto and Enrique García Asensio, among others. As part of her studies, she participated in conducting workshops with Ros Marbá, Celebidache, Rilling, Comisiona and Machat, and in composition workshops with De Pablo, Guinjoan, Nascimbene, Delerue, Gentilucci, Villa-Rojo and Barce. Beatriz has been a teacher of varied disciplines in the music field. She worked as a music consultant for the Community of Madrid before becoming the head of the music division at the Teatros del Canal in 2010, where she is currently coordinator of the Canal Choreographic Center.

She was Vice President of the Asociación Mujeres en la Música (Association of Women in Music) (2010-14) and Music Advisor for public institution Acción Cultural Española (Spanish Cultural Action) (2014-15).

She has composed works commissioned by different institutions such as the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música (INAEM), the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM), the Comunidad de Madrid, the Festival Cristóbal Halffter, the Junta de Andalucía for the Festival de Música Española de Cádiz, as well as for renowned orchestras, musical groups and soloists.

Her works have been performed in different halls and music festivals in Europe, America and Asia; the Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), Teatro Monumental (Madrid), Teatros del Canal (Madrid), Carnegie Hall (New York City-USA), Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Rudolfinum Hall in Prague (Czech Republic), Chamber Hall of the Seoul Art Center (Seoul-Korea), Cabrillo Contemporary Music Festival of Santa Cruz (California-USA), Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria (Santander), among others.

In 2021 she was selected by the SGAE Foundation in collaboration with AEOS to compose a symphonic work for the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra and was commissioned by the Festival Internacional de Santander to create her latest work for the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, the premiere of which took place last August.
