The LUQ Big Band was created in 2015, an initiative of the Societat Artístico Musical ‘La Unió’ de Quart de Poblet, with Toni Tornero as its conductor.

The main objective is the diffusion and divulgation of the Culture of Jazz, offering in the same Association workshops of initiation, harmony, analysis, combo, improvisation and the Big Band itself as the main subject.

His repertoire is, for the most part, Swing, made up of songs by composers such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Oliver Nelson, Sammy Nestico, among many others, as the list is currently extensive.

The LUQ Big Band is an open formation and in constant collaboration with students and professors of the Conservatorio Superior de Jazz Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia, to which we offer our Big Band as a place of practice for the most advantaged students.

For all this we have a music director with a Higher Degree in Jazz, where the level of demand for interpretation and articulation is maximum.

Its members are professionals, almost in its entirety, so that the younger student members undertake this path, well guided.

He was born in Quart de Poblet in 1964. He studied music at the Conservatorio Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia, obtaining the trumpet degree with Mr. Vicente Prats and later higher studies with Mr. Leopoldo Vidal, being his trainer the trumpet teacher Mr. Manuel Lopez.

He perfected his trumpet studies in advanced workshops with Mr. José Ortí, Pierre Dubois and Theo Mertens.

Interested in light music, he studied Jazz Harmony with guitarist Dani Flors and Improvisation with saxophonist Ramon Cardo, attending several Latin Jazz workshops with trumpeters Michel Philip Mossman and Manuel Machado.

He has collaborated with jazz groups such as Perico Sambeat Big Band, Mediterrani Big Band, Sedajazz Big Band, Aljazzira Big Band, Valencia Hot Five, Bugamvilia, Comboiats and the Jazz Band Quart as founder and director in 1994.

He obtained a Higher Degree in Jazz, in 2013, at the Conservatorio Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia, he is part of and collaborates as a trumpeter in groups such as the VLC Big Band, the Big Band Casino Musical de Godella, the UMT Jazz de Torrent and is the current music director of the LUQ Big Band de Quart de Poblet and the JazzUME from Eliana.
