To recognize the personal dedication and contribution to music, particularly wind band music, of a person or persons, either physical or legal, who has/have contributed to the honor and prestige of the International Wind Band Contest “City of Valencia” (hereinafter, CIBM) in the modern era through their involvement in the event and as part of their professional career.
To showcase the CIBM’s importance and influence in the creation and evolution of wind band music, highlighting the significance of performance, effort and successful advances.
Rule 2. Recipient/s
Physical or legal persons who meet the following criteria are eligible for an award: having a musical career of at least 25 years and having made a significant contribution to the development, dissemination and/or improvement of wind band music within the context of the CIBM Valencia. Awards may be given posthumously.
Rule 3. Award categories
The honorary awards may be given in the following categories:
3.1 Recognition of a living physical person.
3.2 Posthumous recognition of a physical person.
3.3 Recognition of a legal person.
Rule 4. Selection criteria
The criteria used to select the physical or legal person/s to receive an award will be among the following:

Nominations may be made by music organizations which are of importance in the Valencia Region such as: the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana (FSMCV), the Coordinadora de Sociedades Musicales de la Ciudad de Valencia (COSOMUVAL), the Instituto Valenciano de Cultura (IVC), the Instituto Superior de Enseñanzas Artísticas de la Comunitat Valenciana (ISEACV), the Asociación de Compositores Sinfónicos Valencianos (COSICOVA), the Diputación Provincial de València (Department of Culture), the Real Academia de Bellas Artes San Carlos, the Conservatorio Municipal José Iturbi, the Academia de la Música Valenciana and the Valencia Campus of Berklee College of Music.
In the event that no music organizations of importance in the Valencia Region make nominations in the established time period, the members of the Organizing Committee for the 138th edition of the International Wind Band Contest “City of Valencia” will make nominations.
To make a nomination, proposers must send a curriculum vitae of the candidate, and a supporting statement which must be no longer than 1,000 words.
The nomination period will run from the day after the approval of these rules until 30 April 2026, both dates inclusive. Nominations must be made using the form available on the Valencia City Council web portal:

Rule 6. Jury
The Jury is made up of members of the Organizing Committee of the International Wind Band Contest “City of Valencia” 2026, who will validate and evaluate the nominations submitted in accordance with the criteria detailed in these rules and issue the awards.
The Jury will decide the person/s to receive award/s before the CIBM 2026 is held and will notify said person/s that they are the recipient of an award and how said award will be given to them.
Rule 7. Recognition
The award recipient/s will receive a commemorative plaque in recognition of their award. The name/s of the recipient/s and the reason/s why they won the award/s will be published on the CIBM Valencia website.
The award/s will be issued during the events of the CIBM 2026.
