The Prince of Asturias Awards

Since 1981, the Prince of Asturias Foundation has presented the Prince of Asturias Awards in order to contribute to the encouragement and promotion of scientific, cultural and humanist values that form part of mankind's universal heritage.

The Prince of Asturias Awards are divided into 8 categories:

• Communication and Humanities
• Letters
• Sports
• Social Sciences
• Technical and Scientific Research
• International Cooperation
• Concord
• Arts

World-famous artists such as Richard Serra, Norman Foster, Bob Dylan, Pedro Almodovár, Paco De Lucía, Woody Allen and Santiago Calatrava, whose works represent a significant contribution to mankind's cultural heritage, are previous recipients of the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.


Candidature of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" for the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2011

This year the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" has the chance to receive this distinguished prize! The prestigious American music university, Berklee College of Music, Boston, has nominated the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" for the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.

In July 2011, the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" will celebrate its 125th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate 125 years of history, culture and music than receiving the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts!

The International Band Contest "City of Valencia" is without doubt one of the most well-known and valued band contests in Europe.

Receiving the Prince of Asturias Award would be an acknowledgement of the passion and efforts of all the musicians and artists who have appeared on the stages of the International Band Contest "City of Valencia" during its 125 years.
