Juan Foriscot Riba was born in Barcelona, and began his studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Barcelona and the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid. The French Institute gave him a grant to study in Paris and the Spanish Fundación Juan March offered him a second grant to enable him to finish his studies in France. He moved to Madrid in 1970 and joined the Spanish television orchestra before winning a place in the Madrid municipal band. From this moment he began an intense career with the television orchestra and the municipal bands and symphony orchestra. He was nominated sub-director of the municipal band in Madrid in 1984. He has directed concerts in the Parque del Retiro, the Centro Cultural de la Villa, the Teatro Español, the Teatro Monumental, the Auditorio Nacional, as well as the Spanish cities of Pamplona, Lugo, Ourense. Last year, he made a recording dedicated to the composer of zarzuelas, Francisco Alonso. He is regularly invited to help select permanent players for other bands in Spain. He was personally presented with the maximum award of the Spanish Guardia Civil in 1999. He been invited to guest direct the country's best bands; including the municipal bands of Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Corunna, and Albacete. He is currently the artistic and administrative director of the Madrid symphonic band. |
