The Agricultural University Band of Lithuania was founded in 1965 and is formed of students from the university together with youngsters from Jelgava. The band participates in all of Lithuania's music festivals and is always invited to accompany performances during the country's national song and dance festival - where it obtained a special diploma in 1998.

The band plays a range of different styles, including Big Band and Jazz, and has participated in several jazz festivals. As a big band, it toured Germany in 1994 and 1995 and Finland in 1999.

The city of Jelgava (formerly called Mittau) has long musical traditions and boasts a palace built by the Italian Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli - architect of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Composers such as Clara, Robert Schumann, List and Wagner have performed in the palace - which is today home to the Agricultural University. Jelgava is the fourth largest city in Lithuania with about 70.000 inhabitants, and is located 40 km from the capital, Riga.
