Tom Skjellum

Sagene Janitsjarkorps (Noruega)

    Tom Skjellum was born in 1952 in Oslo and began his musical training playing trumpet in his school band. In 1968, he joined the Sagene Janitsjarkorps and was soon nominated trumpeter soloist. He held this same post in the band of the Royal Guard during his national service.

    In 1976, he finished his studies at the Norwegian music conservatory and began his professional career as a trumpeter with the national radio orchestra. He was made director of the Sagene Janitsjarkorps in 1979, the post he holds today.

    Over the years, he has studied music in London and Chicago, as well as directing in Oslo and Helsinki.

    Tom Skjellum divides his time between playing, directing, composing and arranging.
