The band was
founded in 1856 and one hundred years later the band had grown to reach 60
members and won first prize in the Buñol pasadobles competition.
Many famous
directors have been a part of the band, including: Eleuterio Campos, Amando
Blanquer, and Roberto Sáez.
During the 1970‘s
the band was directed by Jesús Perelló Fuster and his tenure was followed by
José Miguel Rodilla, Ciro Rodríguez and Juan Ramón Barbera. At the beginning of
the 90‘s, Jesús Perelló returned to lead the band.
Thanks to help from
the town hall, the band now has a new building and a recognised music school.
The band takes part
in many concerts, and has played together with well-known Valencian soloists
such as Ignacio Giner, Mª Angeles López Artigas, and Javier Palacios. It won
first prize in the second section of the 1996 Leganés competition, and made a
recording of the works of Fernández Caballero and Shostakovich.
In 1997, it
received the Dutch band ZNJFO as part of an interchange programme.
A year later, the
band performed various concerts in Paris during the celebrations of the 50th
anniversary of the Parisian Casa de Valencia. In the same year, the band
recorded a CD of the works of Valencian composers together with the ‘El Vedat’
college choir of Torrente. It also created a youth band – led by Juan José
Navarro Hernández.
During 1999, the
band returned the visit of the Dutch band ZNJFO and led a successful tour of
Holland. In the same year, the band joined the Valencian federation of musical
societies.
