Second Section

Corpo Bandístico "Città Di Noto" (SR). (Italia)

Director: Gaetano Alicata

Obra libre: "Northwest Passage", de James Curnow

The band was founded in 1840 by the local town council and is still managed by the council.

Between 1898 and 1960, the band was famed throughout Sicily, but after 1968 the band fell into decline and was dissolved in 1990. Four years later, the town council re-launched the band and it has again achieved success.

It currently has 70 musicians and a reportoire that includes classic and modern – both original and transcripted by the director. These pieces range from film themes to the light and lirical. The band has taken part in numerous festivals and competitions and has always achieved both critical and popular acclaim:

1995 – second prize in the national Scili band contest.

1996 – second prize in the Pesaro band of the year contest

1997 – silver diploma in the Ballaton band competition in Veszprem (Hungary).

1999 – gold diploma in the Bandas G. Verdi competition in Salsomaggiore.

The band has also made various recordings.
