Second Section

Ateneu Musical i Cultural de Albalat de la Ribera (Valencia)

Director: Josep Escandell i Vila

The band grew out of the town's love of music. A municipal band was first recorded in 1870. However, the modern band traces its origins to the post civil war years when it was founded as the Ateneo Musical y Cultural in 1943.

The band enjoyed great success until 1965 when it fell into decay for five years. Fortunately, the band revived and went on to win many awards.

During 1986, and 1989-1991, the band was under the baton of Isabel Costes. In 1987, it was led by Ernest Artal, and the following year by Enric Naval. Between 1992 and 1993, it was directed by Juan Luis Grau. The band has been directed since 1994 by Josep Escandell i Vila.

The band boasts a music school where nearly 100 students study wind (wood and metal), percussion, and musical theory.
