Third Section

Sociedad Musical de Banyeres de Mariola (Alicante)

Director : Diego Niñerola Esteve

Obra libre: "Russian Christmas Music", de Alfred Reed.

The band was founded in 1974 and its first director, José Mª Vicedo, also founded an associated school of music.

José Miguel del Valle became director three years later, and in the same year, the band appeared on a television programme called ‘Pentagrama’.

Gregorio Ballester and Francisco José Molina directed the band between 1987 and 1991. During these years, the school was expanded and work began on improving the band premises. In 1990, the town celebrated the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the first musical band in the town.

The current director, Juan Iznardo, began work in 1992. He started various new projects – some of which are already finished – such as the conversion of the music school into an elementary conservatory. The band celebrated its 25th anniversary by producing two collections of music from the Moors and Christian festivals. The band plans to incorporate string instruments in the future.

The band participated in the ‘Encuentro Provincial de Bandas de Música de Teruel’, in Alcorisa in 1996, and ‘Campan’ in the French Pyrenees in 1996 and, again in 1998. In that same year, the band played at the Palau de la Música de Valencia; the ‘Fiestas de la Merced’ in Barcelona; and appeared Valencia Television’s ‘Pentagrama’.

Major awards include second prize (1979) and first prize (1994) in the Alicante provincial competition; and first prize in the third section of Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1998.
