Musical tradition in Landete, Cuenca, dates back to 1856 and the
first band formed played until 1912. The city then had two bands – and rivalry
between them caused both to disappear in 1960.
Musicians from the
earlier bands began to form the current band in 1977. After a difficult
beginning, the band has grown to become one of the best in the province.
Over the years,
nearly every family in the town has contributed one, or more, members of the
band. The band currently has 73 musicians, 300 members, and 40 students in the
newly formed music school band.
Its current
director is Juan Toledo Pérez, and Angel Terradez Jarque serves as president.
The band plays
annually in group A of the Castile-La Mancha music contest; in the Fallas
fiesta of Valencia; in the Easter Week celebrations in Cuenca; the fiestas of
Buñol, as well as in other towns throughout Cuenca and Spain.
