Third Section

Sociedad Musical "La Popular" de Pedralba (Valencia)

Director : Juan A. Martínez Yago

Obra libre: "Loch Ness", A Scottish Fantasy, de Johan de Meij.

The band was founded in 1949 with Alberto Martín Manzano as director until 1969.

During these years, the band pioneered the concept of interchanging with other bands for town fiestas. The band also won several prizes in competitions.

Between 1969 and 1978, Francisco Alegre Torrijos led the band. As well as regularly visiting Galicia, it participated in six competitions and won five prizes.

The band suffered serious problems in 1978 and ‘La Banda Democrática’ appeared as a result. During the following three years the band learnt to survive in a divided town, and under the leadership of Miguel Morella Asins and Camilo Gómez Romero the band participated in three musical festivals and concerts in Ademuz (Valencia) and Felantx (Mallorca).

José San Antonio Velert held the baton from 1982 until 1988, and the band attended the ‘fiestas de la paloma’ in Madrid and toured Galicia several times. The band also won third prize in a Mediterranean competition organised in Valencia.

The current director, Juan Antonio Martínez, has been leading the band since 1988 and as well as the customary tours of Galicia, the band has participated in three Moros and Cristianos festivals, two Cartagena Holy Week festivals, and four fiestas in Zamora. It also competed in three provincial competitions and won one prize.
