Juan A. Martínez Yago

Sociedad Musical "La Popular" de Pedralba (Valencia)

     Juan Antonio Martínez Yago was born in 1958 in Bugarra and began studying music at the local Unión Musical school under Francisco Idilio Gimeno and Camilo Gómez. He later studied saxophone at the Conservatorio Superior de Valencia. In 1978, he became a military musician and finished his studies in harmony, counterpoint, and fuega, at the military school in Granada. He studied directing under Sánchez Ruzafa, director of the Granada municipal band, and Octav Calella, professor at the conservatorio de Malaga. He also worked with Boomer in Pamplona and studied the Kodaly teaching technique at Estergom in Hungary.

    As director he has worked with the bands of Bugarra, Benisanó, Chiva, Requena, Granada, and the banda popular of Pedralba and Tuejar.

    He has composed a procession march, various pasodobles, hymns, and a jota. In addition to directing the band, he teaches in the music school of Albal.
