Boqueixón is eight kilometres from Santiago in Galicia and has around 5000 inhabitants divided into 14 parishes – including one of the smallest in Spain with just nine residents. The town has many traditions associated with the pilgrimage to Santiago. As well as boasting many churches and chapels, the town is famed for its excellent restaurants.

The band was formed just five years ago and consists of professional musicians from all over Galicia. These musicians travel to Boqueixón to take part in various composition workshops, chamber groups, and other rehearsals. Most of the players are teachers, or soloists, from other bands in Galicia.

The band measures success by its performances. Among its successes are: an anthology of zarzuelas with Amparo Navarro and Javier Galán, various symphonic concerts accompanying soloists, as well as critically-acclaimed first performances of pieces by Galician composers.

The band has a released a CD of pasadobles that include Galician place-names – entitled ‘O Pasodobre Galego’. All of the band’s reportoire has been recorded by Radio Autonómica Galega. The band’s next release will feature music played during this competition.
