The band was founded as the Union Musical in 1986 by Heliodoro Frigola Calatayud - a local teacher and composer. It changed its name to Foment Artístico in 1910 and seven years later it changed again to the current name. The band has always relied on obtaining excellent resident and guest directors - both Spanish and foreign.
It first participated in the Valencia International Music Band Contest in 1927 - and has since won many prizes in the competition. In the section of honour, it has won four third prizes, two second prizes, and eight first prizes. In 1987 and 1998, it also obtained an honorable mention.
In 1989, the band won gold in the Kerkade Olympic competition held in Holland. It won first prize with honorable mention in the Altea national contest in 1997.
The band society started a youth band and orchestra in 1985. The band now has 50 student-players and the orchestra some 70 instrumentalists.
Recently, the band has made various recordings including a CD of contemporary music entitled 'The Age Of Aquarius'.
