Banda de Música De Getafe (Madrid)![]() HISTORY OF THE BAND The Getafe Band was launched in May 1984 to take part in local celebrations of patron saints’ days. From its beginnings, the conductor Francisco Aguado Martí has brought together amateur musicians from Getafe and its neighboring towns, and trainee young musicians who have come from the recently founded music school. Today, Getafe has a professional conservatory as well as a Municipal Music School. Our main activity is the encouragement and promotion of music in Getafe, with the indispensable support of the local council, bringing solemnity to various official and social events, giving concerts in fiestas, local neighborhoods, regional organization meetings, the University, etc. In addition, our group has also created concert series for spring, for festivals, and for the celebration of Saint Cecilia’s day, where everyone can enjoy our music and that of the other bands that accompany us. Today, and since the band’s launch, our performances are usually held in the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. However, we also perform in other local venues, and give concerts around the Valencia Region and in other autonomous regions upon request. The Getafe Band has taken part in various national contests such as those in Campo de Criptana, Leganés and La Senia, where we have won several prizes and above all the satisfaction of a job well done. We have also participated in the fifth season of concerts organized by RNE [Spanish National Radio] in the Valencia Concert Hall and the recording of a CD of the event with the RTVE label. We continue to perform our music for both our own enjoyment and that of others, with a constant awareness that bands are delicate groups, susceptible to various problems: so we have to make every effort to keep the band going, continue to train its members and make the lives of those that listen to us a little more pleasant.
