FELIPE NERI GIL MARRERO

Felipe Neri Gil Narrero was born in Arafo (Tenerife) in 1961, and began to dedicate his time to musical studies and activities from an early age, starting them in the Arafo "La Candelaria" Wind Band, under the direction of Maestro Amílcar González Díaz. He studied Sol-fa and Flute at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Superior Conservatory of Music with Professors Argelia Pérez and Evencio A. Pérez Fariña.

He was a member of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, playing the flute and piccolo during several seasons.

He has also taken part in the Tenerife Association of Friends of the Opera (ATAO) Opera Festivals and Operetta Festivals (1985).

He is a founding member of the Chamber Orchestra of the City of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (1987), and the Arafo "Añavingo" Woodwind Quintet (1990), of which he is still a member.

He studied Band Conducting in 1983 and 1984 with Amando Blanquer and in 1991, 1992 and 1993 with Adam Ferrero.
From 1983 to 1994 he was Principal Conductor of the Guía de Isora Band and he was Principal Conductor of the Ciudad de Güimar Academy Music Band until 2007.
He was Director of the First "Agustín Ángel" Course in Technique, Interpretation and Improvement, held in Güimar.
He studied Orchestra Conducting and Chamber Music with the Professor of Conducting, Juan José Olives, in 1994 in Santa Cruz de la Palma, and in the Zaragoza and Barcelona Superior Conservatories of Music.
He was the soloist flute teacher of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal Band.
As a complement to his training, he studied Music Analysis and Band Conducting at the Toledo Superior Conservatory of Music with the Professor and Director, Enrique García Asensio (1999 - 2000).
In 1999 he was awarded the Gold Insignia by Güimar Town Council.
He was the Director of the "Los Fregolinos" Lyric Music Ensemble for various years.
He was the Musical Director of the "Fregolino de Oro" ceremony in 2000.
He studied Band Conducting with the conductor and composer, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana (2000 - 2006).
In the 2002-2003 season he was Guest Conductor of La Laguna Chamber Orchestra.
In March 2003 he was awarded the Gold Insignia by the Llíria Music Association (Valencia).
In July 2003 and June 2004 and 2005, he was Guest Conductor in Puntallana and Santa Cruz de la Palma.
He is a member of the General Society of Spanish Authors and Composers (SGAE) and the Tenerife Association of Composers and Musicians (COSIMTE).
From February 2005 to 2010 he was Guest Conductor of the Bilbao Municipal Band.
In September 2006 he was Guest Conductor of the Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band.
In November 2006 he was Principal Guest Conductor in the Ibero-American Congress of Symphonic Bands in Córdoba (Argentina).
In 2007 and 2008 he was Guest Conductor of the Barcelona Municipal Band.
In April 2007 he was Guest Conductor of the Albacete Municipal Band.
In November 2007 he was Guest Conductor of La Laguna University Symphonic Band.
In 2008 he was Guest Conductor of the A Coruña Municipal Band.
In November 2008 he was Artistic Director for the IV Ibero-American Congress of Symphonic Bands, Conductors, Composers, Arrangers and Ensembles "City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife", organized jointly by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the Island Council of Tenerife and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal Band. This was the first time that this Congress was celebrated in a European city.
In November 2009 he was Guest Conductor of the Seville Municipal Band.
In January 2010 he was Principal Guest Conductor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Municipal Symphonic Band.

He has collaborated with director and composers such as Jan van Der Roost, Johan de Meij, Amando Blanquer, Franco Cesarini, Philipp Sparke, Rafael Mullor Francisco Zacarés, Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana, Rafael Sanz Espert, Kepa Junquera, Víctor Batista, Benito Cabrera and Chago Melián, among many others.
He is currently the Artistic Director of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal Band.
