Agrupación Musical "Los Silos" de Burjassot (Valencia)

   Francisco Javier Chornet Mena was born in 1962 in Valencia and began his musical studies with the clarinet in the C.I.M. band in Mislata. He went on to study in the conservatories of Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid.

    He has studied directing with Pedro Pirfano, Jan Cober, Bernardo Adam, José Mª Cervera, Luis Sanjaime and Enrique García Asensio.

    He has taught at the following colleges: Amadeo Tortajada in Mislata, Pintor López in Castellar, Santa María in Valencia, La Salle in Paterna, and Santa Cecilia in Grao.

    As director of the CIM band of Mislata he obtained two second prizes in the Valencia International Music Band Contest in the special B section. With this band he was commissioned by the provincial government in 1988 to make a recording of Valencian composers.

    He also directed the Unión Musical of Sueca, and obtained a first prize in the first section of the Valencia International Music Band Contest.

    He has been director of the Círculo Musical of Gestalgar since 1982, and director of the Centro Instructivo Unión Musical in Bugarra since 2000.

    In his seven years as director of Los Silos, he has won third prize in the Valencia provincial competition and second prize in the Valencia International Music Band Contest - both in the second section.
