Excellency the Member of Parliament for Culture

There
are some things in life -concepts, situations, feelings, among
others- that always come together, in general. White / immaculate
appearance, Aeroplane / speed; Woman / motherhood, etc. It
would therefore be easy to reach some quick conclusions, which
can sometimes be wrong because of the fact that we all too
often jump to conclusions, but even so they help us to understand
and perfectly summarise in a quick way the things we mean.
This is the case, for example, of the two words VALENCIA and
MUSIC, which are nearly always associated together, at least
mentally. They are, in this way, complementary. One lacks meaning
without the other.
In the same way we associate the month of July and the geography
to make up the scenario, one year more, so that our city is
the meeting point, the unavoidable annual appointment and the
incomparable framework within which a musical contest is set,
a musical contest that has become a reference point for the
whole world. On one hand we have the musicians and on the other
we have the citizens and inhabitants of the city who open up
their doors, their streets and their arms to these unique and
singular performances. Union is produced in a magical and eloquent
way and is both full and instantaneous. As if it were an act
of love: generous and without asking for anything in exchange.
It is like that, that music, its inner strength, and the meaning
of its chords produce a reunion with their deep roots, in all
music lovers and people who attend in general, which in turn
mixes and combines affection, union and vitality of peoples,
both from near and from afar; the classical musicians, the
remote ones, but also the new ones who exchange knowledge and
experiences. All of that means that we are able to enjoy the
best human and personal experiences over these days. And in
that way music resolves conflicts and joins hands together,
makes bridges of comprehension, affection and solidarity.
Music has the vocation of unequivocal communication, it is
the green light that seals the most intimate events and enables,
reinforces, the common links between inhabitants both near
and far, whether from the same or different cultures. Ask anyone
and you will see how the musical answer is the most harmonious
and most universal. It must be for something.
Our wish is therefore, that once again thanks to these days
of unity between music and the feelings, the world is able
to live with broader, more festive and closer horizons, so
that by forgetting our inevitable differences we can find through
music, the diversity, devotion and generosity that tolerant
people know how to and can give through their musical expression.
Valencia knows all of that. Once again it is the challenge
of union that we find before us and we are going to meet it.
