Sociedad Musical "La Artística" Manisense

HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Sociedad Musical La Artística Manisense was founded in 1968. Its first teacher and conductor was Enrique Fores Asensi, who remained in post until 1973 when he was succeeded by Rafael Martínez Castillo. He perfected the Band’s knowledge and, in 1974, took them to the Valencia Provincial Contest for the first time. The same year José Miguel Micó Castellano took over as conductor and consolidated the Band’s position among the best in the Valencia Region.
In April 2003, after several other directors had led the Band (Julio Martínez García, Alexis Calvo López, José Alamá Gil, Ramón Ramírez Beneyto and Juan Pablo Hellín Chaparro), its current conductor, Vicente Alamà, took up the post. During his time with the Band, particularly worthy of note are its numerous performances in the Palau de la Música, concerts in the Portuguese towns of Coimbra and Tomar, and its performance at the Vila d’Altea International Contest in 2005, where it once again won First Prize.
Our Band is currently made up of about 150 musicians, 30% of whom play with renowned symphonic orchestras, civilian and military bands, as well as teaching in conservatories all over Spain.
The Band has recorded various records, CDs and DVDs, one of them commissioned by the Valencia Provincial Government for its “Retrobem la Nostra Música” campaign.
On 24 July 2009, the Band took part in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland) and received the highest score of the day and of the weekend (93.02 out of 100) with an excellent performance which the jury described as “almost perfect”.
