Once every two years the orchestra plans an international trip to a festival abroad. In December 2011 SHOT visited China. We had previously taken part in the Mid-Europe (Schladming), Jungfrau-festival (Interlaken) and Diffwinds (Differdange) festivals. The first concert trip SHOT ever made was in 1996, when we visited Valencia to participate in the International Wind Band Contest as a guest band.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Ronny Buurink

Ronny Buurink has been conducting orchestras for over 20 years.

He started playing the clarinet when he was 16 years old. He immediately fell in love with the instrument and took lessons at the Music Academy in Enschede.

After that he went to the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, one of the most famous music academies in Europe. There he was taught by the first clarinettist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra: Piet Honingh.

After his studies he went back to his birthplace and started conducting various (amateur) orchestras in the region. Currently Ronny Buurink plays Solo-Clarinet in probably (one of) the best semi-amateur wind bands in the Netherlands, Wilhelmina Glanerbrug, which is based near the university in Enschede. Under the watchful eye of Mr. Buurink, the Studenten Harmonie Orkest Twente plays beautiful music in both national and international concerts and festivals.
