JOSÉ VICENT EGEA

José Vicent Egea has diplomas in composition, choir conducting and orchestra conducting from the San Sebastián Superior Conservatory of Music. He holds a "Certificate of Advanced Studies" in Orchestra Conducting from the London Royal Academy of Music, and has received scholarships from the Banco de España and RAM. He graduated as a Special Student in Orchestra Conducting from the Manhattan School of Music in New York.

As a composer he has received commissions from various institutions, such as: the Navarre Regional Government, Pamplona Town Council, the Government of the Autonomous Region of Valencia, the CDMC (the Spanish Center for the Promotion of Contemporary Music), the AIE (Spanish Association of Performers and Concert Artists), the Pablo Sarasate Orchestra, the Baluarte Concert Hall, Valencia City Council, the Alicante Provincial Government, the 36th International Horn Symposium-Valencia 2004, the Institut Valencià de la Música, the Pamplona Municipal Band, the Fundación Autor - AEOS, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Soria Town Council and the Orfeón Pamplonés. He has also won numerous prizes, including: the Tolosa International Contest (1988), the Navarre Regional Government Prize (1992, 1998 and 2001), the BP International Prize, Leipzig (1995) and the Joaquín Turina Prize (1998). His music has been performed by the Navarre Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Basque Country, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Murcia Symphony Orchestra, the RTVE Orchestra, the Seville Symphony Orchestra, the Gallia Royal Philharmonic, the KBS Symphony Orchestra of South Korea, the Youth Orchestra of the Galicia Symphony and the Orchestra of the Mariinski Theater in Saint Petersburg.

He has conducted many ensembles, such as: the Navarre Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Basque Country, the Madrid Region Symphony Orchestra, the Galicia Royal Philharmonic and the Soloists of the Madrid Symphony.

From 1992-93 he was Assistant Conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra. He was Director of Studies at the Reina Sofía Superior School of Music, and a teacher at Musikene and at the Galicia Advanced Studies Music School. In 1993 he founded the FINALE Instrumental Group, with which he has premiered and recorded various works, including performances of the winning entries for the 12th and 14th editions of the SGAE Composition Awards for the Fundación Autor and CDMC.

He currently divides his time between teaching and conducting the wind band and orchestra of the Navarre Superior Conservatory of Music. He is also principal conductor of the Pamplona Municipal Band, as well as a composer and guest conductor for various ensembles and orchestras.
