BERNARDO ADAM FERRERO


Bernardo Adam Ferrero was born in Algemesí (Valencia). He studied Piano, Composition and Orchestra Direction in the Conservatories of Valencia, Madrid, Paris, Rome and the Sienna Accademia Chigiana (Italy) with Maestros José María Cervera, Daniel de Nueda, Ernesto Francés, Amando Blanquer, Franco Ferrara, Nino Antonellini, Godfredo Petrassi, Luigi Dallapíccola, Olivier Messiaen and Betsy Jolas.

He has won the following national composition prizes: "Joaquín Rodrigo", "Manuel Palau", "Instituto de Estudios Alicantinos", "Maestro Villa" from Madrid, the Spanish Foundation for Composition and Orchestra Direction, "Ausias March", "Amics d´Or" and "Mercedes Massí". He has the "Master" award from the Forum de Alta Dirección (Madrid) in recognition of his professional career. In New York he was awarded the "Order of Merit" for his contribution to the music world. He has also been awarded the Gold Baton from the Gran Teatro in Havana, the Midwest Medal of Honor from Chicago (USA), the Silver Shell from the Philippines, the "Egrem" Prize from America, the "Sapienta" prize, the Order of the Battle of Carabobo (Venezuela), the Algemesí "Galardón 2002", the 2003 Euterpe Prize and the "Llama Rotaria 2006" from Valencia.

He gives lectures and publishes articles in several magazines. He composes music for cinema, carries out research and has published numerous books. He is an academic at the San Fernando Royal Fine Arts Academy in Madrid, Rector of the Valencian Music Academy and an Honorary Member of the Carlos III Foundation. He holds the distinction of being a member of the Royal Order of Saint Hermenegild, being awarded his medal by His Majesty, King Juan Carlos I of Spain. He has an honorary doctorate from the University of Sydney (Australia) and teaches History and Aesthetics at the Valencia Universidad Politécnica. His works have been performed on all of the five continents.

As a principal and guest director he has led the best orchestras and professional bands in Spain, Europe and America. He currently directs in Madrid, at the Real Camerata Española. In Valencia he directs the Chamber Orchestra and the "Mare Nostrum" soloist group.
