TEO APARICIO BARBERÁN



Teo Aparicio-Barberán was born in Enguera in 1967. He studied saxophone with M.Vidal, F.Moral, G.Castellano, M.Miján and J.M. Londeix. He also studied double bass, piano, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, composition and orchestra direction, receiving two honor prizes upon finishing his studies. He furthered his studies with B. Adam, Carl Schahter and Bruno Membrey. He cites Luis Blanes as the person who has most influenced his musical career.

He has been principal conductor of the bands of Enguera, Fte. La Higuera, Vva. de Castellón, Quart de Poblet and Alaquàs, and guest director of numerous instrumental groups (the Lliria "Primitiva" Band, L´Ampurda Orchestra, the Albacete Symphony Orchestra, the Palma de Mallorca Municipal Band, the Monserrat Music Association Band, the "Sta. María da Feira" in Portugal, the Alicante Municipal Band, the National Band of Havana, the San José National Band of Costa Rica, the Buñol "La Artística" Band, and the Valencia Municipal Band, among others). For the 2007 and 2009 seasons he was the principal conductor of the FSMCV Band.

He has composed more than a hundred works for different instrumental groups. His music has been performed in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Columbia, Belgium, Japan, Holland and the USA. His works have been included in numerous national and international contests such as the Valencia International Wind Band Contest, the WMC in Holland, the Fliscorno de Oro in Italy and the Lichtensteig Contest. His music can be found on more than 15 CDs, released by Ed.Piles, Albadoc, Tot per l´aire, the Belgian label, Beriato, and the American label, Hal Leonard. He is a member of COSICOVA and WASBE.

He has taught direction and composition in various universities and schools in Costa Rica, Colombia, Portugal and Spain.

He currently divides his time between composing and directing the Enguera "Santa Cecilia" Music Association and the symphony band of the Primitiva Setabense.
