HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Societat Musical Turisense (Turis Musical Association of Valencia) was founded by Francesc Navarro i Corell in 1906 after two years of intense effort.

The association has been very successful over the years, and some of its major prizes and awards are listed below:

1930, first prize in the second section, in the fifth municipal competition for Civil Bands.
1947, third prize in the second section in the Valencia July Fair bands competition.
1970, first prize in the second section in the Valencia July Fair bands competition.

More recently, the Turis Musical Association Band has won some very important prizes.

1994 and 1995, first prize in the Valencia Royal Yacht Club bands competition.
1995, second prize in the third section of the Valencia Provincial Council bands competition.
1997, first prize in the second section in the Valencia Provincial Council competition and second prize in the Community of Valencia bands competition.
1999, third prize in the second section in the City of Murcia competition.

Various prizes for "Moors and Christians" festival music, including first prize in the City of Alcoi music band procession in 2006.

The Turis Musical Association currently includes the "Valentín Puig" Music School with 135 students and 17 teaching staff.

The association also has a large Polyphonic Choir named after its founder, Vicent Ribes.

Many conductors have held the baton for the band, including its founder, Francisco Navarro, followed by Baldomero Roig, Valentín Puig, Salvador Barber, Roberto Sáez, Carmelo Sala, Enrique Gosp, Pascual Peris, Fanscisco Zacares, David Ramírez Valero, Luis Gómez Zanón, Francisco Valero, Germán Giménez, Miguel Pérez Ricarte; the current conductor is José Teruel Domingez.


BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

José Teruel Domínguez



José Teruel Domínguez is the oboe soloist of the Valencia Orchestra. He has been a member of the orchestra since 1998, after collaborating with various Spanish orchestras and chamber groups, particularly the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands in 1996 and 1998.

As director, he led the Almenara Santa Cecilia Music Association Band from 2005 to 2007 (winning First Prize at the Castellón Provincial Contest in 2007), and since 2009 he has been the director of the Turis Music Association Band.
