FERNÁNDEZ GROBA. LEAD CONDUCTOR OF THE "A CORUÑA" MUNICIPAL
BAND. Born in Guláns – Ponteareas (Pontevedra)
in 1938. He started his musical studies at the Royal Conservatorium
of Music in Madrid under the guidance of professors Bravo,
Parra, Sopeña, García Matos, Calés Otero,
J. Gómez and Cristóbal Halfter. In 1963 he was
awarded the extraordinary prize for Counterpoint and Fugue
and also the Diploma from the Royal Conservatorium of Madrid.
The same year he was admitted to the Civil Musical Band Conductor’s
Board after passing the official admission exams. In Switzerland,
where he resided for 15 years, he consecutively conducted the
Harmonie Ste. Cecilie d’Orbe, the Instrumental Union
of Payeme and the Harmonie Municipal de Monthey. He was a cantonal
music teacher for perfection courses in music in Canton de
Vaud, teacher at the Moudon and Payeme schools of music and
also at the Fribourg Conservatorium.
He conducted concerts in Tuibinga, Munich, Stuttgart (Germany);
Château-Tierry, Nimes, Baune y Dijon (France); Alstatten,
Füerthalen, Brasilia and Bellinzona (Switzerland). Since
his return to Spain in 1979, he has been named conductor of
the Municipal Music Band of A Coruña and was also the
head conductor of the Municipal Music Band of Lugo.
He has won several prizes for his performances with the Musical
Bands of Payeme and Moudon, qualifying first for two consecutive
years, the first band in Canton de Vaud of the 120 existing
bands. He was awarded with the "Collierde ronce" at
the Fête de la Vine de Dijon in 1970. He won second prize
in the composition contest of the Swiss Musical Bands Federation.
He is the author of the Ville de Payeme hymn and many other
pieces of music which are now compulsory pieces in regional,
cantonal and federal music festivals, some of them have been
recorded by the Suisse Remande radio and television. He has
been the guest conductor of the Municipal Band of Madrid on
several occasions and also of the Alicante Municipal Band.
He regularly takes part as a member of the panel of judges
at different musical band contests held in Spain.
