The International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" is one of the major musical events in our calendar. In 2014, for its 128th edition, the Contest will bring together numerous music groups to compete for prizes which will single out the best and give them good reason to be satisfied with their performance.

The recognition given by the Contest rewards the work of many people, their ongoing dedication, their passion for improvement and their ambition. Each of the musicians who comes to Valencia to take part in this great event do so with enormous enthusiasm, with the desire to give their best and to demonstrate the results of hours and hours of study and practice. The participants' enthusiasm is always transmitted to the audience with the result that each performance in the Contest is a great musical fiesta which brings everyone together.

During many months, in many towns and cities in our region, in rehearsal halls, classrooms, or in the privacy of their own homes, many men and women of all ages have prepared for this great event, which Valencia hosts for yet another edition in its centennial history. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to them and wish them all the best of luck for this International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia".
