The International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" is gaining a renown of which we can feel very proud. This is reflected in this new edition, which will also, without doubt, further contribute to the prestige, quality and importance that this event has acquired throughout its fruitful history.

The boundless enthusiasm that the organizing committee has poured into the last two editions of the Contest, working tirelessly to improve their content and to introduce new ideas to encourage quality, originality and to make it easier for music-lovers to access the event, has led to an 19% increase in applications to take part compared to 2013, and a 42% increase compared to 2012, the first year in which the Contest was hosted by the Palau de la Música, without doubt the ideal venue.

We will experience four intense days, highly-charged with emotion, in which enthusiasm, competition and sporting rivalry reign. The Contest will once again have a magnificent prelude in a location as iconic as Colon Market. Furthermore, and keeping up with developments in society, it will also be possible to follow the Contest using new technologies and all kinds of electronic devices.

As President of the Palau de la Música and Councilor for the Valencia Orchestra and Municipal Band, I would like to invite everyone to listen to the best wind band music and to let themselves get swept along by the unique atmosphere in the Palau de la Música during the Contest. And, of course, I hope that all the participating wind bands, those from the Valencia Region and from elsewhere in Spain and abroad, display through their artistry all the hard work and effort they have put into the competition.

The best wind band contest in the world is beginning. Let's enjoy it.
