HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Wind Band of Son Rapinya had its debut on 22 December 1984 in the Colegio Son Quint. It has performed in numerous venues in Mallorca, including the Teatro Principal, the Auditorium and the Trui Theater.
Currently the Band has 50 musicians, almost all of them amateurs.
In 2011 the Band accompanied a concert given by Manolo Escobar in the Trui Theater in Mallorca.
In 2012 it gave a concert to accompany the Valencian singer Francisco.
In 2013 the Band acted as the house band in the performance of Aida in the Palma Teatro Principal together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands. It performed the Spanish premier of Gloria by the British composer Karl Jenkins, together with Mallorca University Choir, the Orfeó Ramon Llull Choir and Musicantes de Mallorca. In October 2013 the Band was selected to perform a series of concerts in the Teatro Principal as part of Mallorca Council's Lunes de Cultura program.
In 2014 the Band performed in Verdi's Rigoletto together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, once again in the Mallorca Teatro Principal.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR
Germán Guillén Alcocer
Germán Guillén Alcocer was born in Bigastro in 1984. He began studying music with Juan Morote in the local music school.
In June 2006 he completed his advanced diploma clarinet studies in the Murcia "Manuel Massotti" Superior Conservatory of Music with Miguel Torres, graduating with Honors.
He furthered his training in conducting with José Rafael Pascual Viapana, Eugene Corporon and Jan Cober.
As a conductor he has won a Second and First Prize at the Alicante Provincial Wind Band Contest in 2008 and 2009 respectively, leading the Band of the San Fulgencio Unión Musical, of which he was head conductor from 2005 to 2010.
From 2003 to 2005 he led the "Manuel Moya" youth choir; from 2004 to 2010 he was assistant conductor for the Band of the Bigastro Sociedad Unión Musical and also director of their Youth Band. From 2005 to 2010 he was head conductor of the Band of the San Fulgencio Sociedad Unión Musical. He is currently the head conductor of the Band of Son Rapinya of Palma de Mallorca.
