HISTORY OF THE BAND
The "Unió Musical Beniarbeig" Band was founded in 1925 by Luis Santonja, its financial sponsor, and José Fornés, its first conductor.
From 1995 to 1997, the Association's president was Francisco Javier Querol i Sancho. In this period, 16 February 1997 is particularly memorable because it was on this date that the Unió Musical Beniarbeig performed for the first time in the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
Since 2003 the Band has been led by Filiberto Mira Ortega.
In 2004 they entered the Provincial Band Contest organized by the Alicante Provincial Government for the first time and won Second Prize in Division Three.
In 2005 they took part in the Alicante Provincial Band Contest again and won Second Prize.
In 2006, on 23 July, they performed in the Sala Iturbi in the Palau de la Música in Valencia for the third time.
In 2007 they received Honorable Mention in the Alicante Provincial Band Contest in Division Three.
The same year they came second in the Valencia Regional Music Contest.
In 2013 they received Honorable Mention in the Alicante Provincial Band Contest in Division Three.
The same year they participated in the Valencia Regional Music Contest in the Palacio Reina Sofía in Valencia, winning a Second Prize.
In 2013 they performed in the ADDA in Alicante, and the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR
Filibert Mira Ortega
Filibert Mira Ortega's conducting career began in 1988 when he became conductor of the Albaida Unió Musical. In the same year he was given the task of forming a band in the town of Miramar, which was formally established in 1991.
He has been on various tours around the Valencia Region, Italy, Germany, England, Austria and Romania, among others. He has been guest conductor for many ensembles, including: the Banda Città de Fano (Italy), the Band of the Societat Musical de Faura, the Orquesta de l'Horta, the Band and Orchestra of Quart de Poblet, and the Safor-Valldigna district band.
He currently divides his time between conducting and teaching orchestra at the Carcaixent Mestre Vert Professional Conservatory (Valencia).
He has received various prizes as a conductor with the Beniarbeig Unió Musical. In 2004 and 2005 he won Second Prize in the Alicante Provincial Government Band Contest. In 2007 he won First Prize and Honorable Mention in the Alicante Provincial Government and Second Prize in the Valencia Regional Contest. In 2013, with the same band, he received Honorable Mention in the Alicante Provincial Government Contest and Second Prize in the Valencia Regional Contest.
In his position as director of the Catarroja Unió Musical he received Third Prize in the International Band Contest "City of Murcia" in 2008, and in 2010 he won First Prize in the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia".
In 2013 he won Second Prize in the Valencia Provincial Government Contest.
His teaching and research work earned him the Euterpe Prize for Musical Management in 2011 for his paper about improving management in music schools: "Coordinar en la Nube".
