Sinfonisches Blasorchester Süd-West de Mainz

HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Sinfonisches Blasorchester Süd-West is a wind orchestra which performs symphonic music. The Band is based in the southeast of Germany, next to the beautiful Rhine. Now with over 40 years of musical history to its name, the Band is one of the many groups in the CMIKB e.V. association.
The Band has been conducted by Stefan Grefig for many years. Under his baton the Band performed the German premier of the "Asgar" symphony and the world premier of a composition by Thiemo Krass. The Band travels all over Germany and abroad; its destinations have included the Black Forest, Innsbruck and Rome. They also perform in many special concerts such as la piccola opera, and with soloists from the Academy of Stage Arts.
It is the goal of the Sinfonisches Blasorchester Süd-West to cultivate and disseminate the genre of symphonic music for wind band which is little-known in Germany. At the same time they aim to create enthusiasm for this genre among music lovers and the general public by performing original works from the symphonic repertoire for bands by contemporary composers from Germany and abroad, working with the Dutch composer Johan de Meij and the German composers Andrea Csollany and Rold Rudin.
Although balance in instrumental groups is very important, participation in the Band is open to anyone who wants to join and is keen to dedicate themselves to music.
Providing education for children and young people guarantees a future source of band members; this is why the average age of the Band's members is very low. The association teaches 50 children and young people between 6 and 18 years of age who play in two youth bands. This ensures that Sinfonisches Blasorchester Süd-West will be able to continue making music for many years.
