Societat Musical “La Nova” de Xátiva

HISTORY OF THE BAND

The association was first founded in 1861, under the direction of Antonio Gasola and the name "Música Nueva". Its status was legalized on 26 February 1901; at this time Rafael Marco was the Band's director and its first president was Luis Ballester.

On 2 November 1921 José Ramírez became director of the Band and the orchestra. He composed a hymn for the Virgen of La Seu, a melody played by the chimes of the collegiate church. In 1974 the association constructed their own building on a site on the Alameda.

Since 1940 the Band has been led by renowned conductors such as Ricardo Bolinches, Pau Carbonell, Francisco Baixauli, Roberto Saez, Victorino Tarin, Salvador Huerta, Joan Enric Canet, Julio Juan Garcia and José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana. David Penadés Fasanar has been the Band's director since 9 December 2009.

On 25 November 2000 the "Musica Nova" Orchestra was founded with Julio Juan Garcia as its head conductor.

During its more than 110 years of life, the Band has: travelled all over Europe; taken part in recordings for RNE and Canal 9; established its own Official Music School with 250 students; received the Gold Medal from Xátiva Town Council and the Gold Medal from the Federation of Musical Societies of the Autonomous Region of Valencia.

On 8 June 2013 the Band won First Prize in the Agost Festival Music Contest.

Since March 2010, Ricardo Ventura Mompó has been president of the association.


BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

David Penadés Fasanar

David Penadés Fasanar was born in Canals (Valencia) in 1978. He completed his degree studies at the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory of Music in Valencia where he was awarded the End of Degree Honors Prize. He has also won the Euterpe Prize for Music from the Federation of Music Societies of the Autonomous Region of Valencia. He has a master's degree in musical aesthetics and creativity from the University of Valencia.

He studied harmony, counterpoint and fugue, composition and orchestra conducting with various teachers and was selected to conduct orchestras such as the University of Valencia Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Valencia Symphony Orchestra. He has composed works in various genres which have won prizes, as well has having been recorded and performed in numerous competitions and contests both in Spain and abroad.

He has been principal conductor of several music societies, including: the Sumacàrcer Unió Musical "El Xúquer" (2001-2005), the Quart de Poblet Agrupació Musical "l'Amistat" (2006) and the Manuel Agrupación Musical (2007-2009). He won important prizes in different contests with these ensembles. He currently divides his time between his work as head conductor of the Symphonic Band of the Xàtiva Societat Musical "la Nova", and composing.
